Black screen as boot occurs (no Microsoft XP logo/type) then welcome screen appears

When I turn on my computer I now get a black screen as the computer boots.
Welcome screen appears eventually and then all is well. SP2 installed, but
was working ok (i.e. Microsoft Windows XP message would appeAR), but now
this black screen. Any ideas??
