BITS changed to automatic?

Is it just me, or did a recent WinXP update change the Background
Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) service from Manual to Automatic
startup?

I'm asking because I just went into the Services applet, and noticed
that BITS is now set to Automatic--and I know that (A) It is set to
Manual by default upon WinXP installation; and (B) I did not change it
to Automatic. I realize that it would be possible for third-party
software to make this change, but I really don't think that happened.

Thanks, that's what I assumed. So to be perfectly explicit, other
systems now have BITS set to automatic?

(I know it doesn't really matter; I'm just incredibly anal retentive.)

It probably did. Windows Update version 5 needs BITS to work, and
complains if it is not available. In fact a setting of that to Manual
is sufficient; but the update that put it on your machine may have gone
the whole way
You also need Automatic Updates on Automatic - even if you only use
Update manually
