best way to copy XP disc?

I wish to make a backup of my new XP home CD. What is the best way of doing
this? I am not that experienced with disc copying but I know a few bits.

Would the best way be to create an iso of the disc to hard drive and then
burn the iso? If doing an ISO will it ensure that it retains the
bootability of the software?

Forgot to ask, can I add another folder to the XP disc for my current
downloads so I do not have to download them again if I need them? Obviously
I don't want any addition to the disc to interfere with the setup process.

The install CD is fully copyable with any burning software,
either as a disk all-at-once or by burning the folder contents.
ISO isn't necessary, Joliet works just fine. But, the copy
cannot be used to install the system.

Having a backup is a good idea, though, and many people copy the
driver and "toys" stuff to their HD to avoid having to find
their one and only legal CD to install where you get the message
"Windows needs to load XXX, get it from here ...".

So what is the point of being able to backup the disc if I cannot use it to
install the system?

Because the other poster was incorrect. Copy your XP cd with a simple
disk copy. You can use the copy exactly the same as you would any other
XP installation disk.

As for slipstreaming the updates, I don't know if you can do this. I've
got links for general slipstreaming of Service Packs, but I don't know
if you can include other updates you download from Windows Catalog.
Here are the slipstreaming links:

Thanks for the information. I don't need a slipstream with service pack 2 as
the disc is already loaded with that fortunately. I was just thinking of
adding installs for things that would need to be reinstalled afterwards -
like antivirus and so on. I don't need them to install during the XP
installation (thats probably not possible anyway) but just a folder with exe
files in it so I do not need to download them again.
If I copied the windows XP disc and then created my own personal folder
within the files will that interfere somehow with the xp setup?

I think I'd just make a separate cd with the updates instead of trying
to put it on your install disk.

How to download updates and drivers from the Windows Update Catalog or
from the Microsoft Update Catalog:

Only because there are plenty of uses for the install CD besides
a reinstall. M$ will give you a new CD for free or just
shipping, just call. However, if it weren't for bullshit crap
like "activation", a call to some foreign country for tech
support wouldn't be necessary.

Why not just a disk to disk copy?

You should try the help files for your disk burning program. Amazing what
you'll pick up ;-)

I haven't actually got one yet. Still deciding which to use :)
