Best software for getting rid of particular Trojan Horse

Last week I acquired two Trojan Horse Downloader.Generic.PTN and thought that
AVG had gotten rid of them (along with a couple files I needed). I got my
System Restore back up and operating but when I tried to uninstall and then
reinstall my US Robotics I was told that when it was unpacking atmdlusr.exe
access was denied and my install cancelled. And then my system went blue
screen and crashed. I was able to use System Restore and get it up and
running again but it seems that Trojan Horse is still there. What would be
the best software for getting rid of it for good? I've run a bunch of
spyware programs and they're saying I'm clean. Another question is why, when
I had uninstalled US Robotics with the add/remove function, did the virus pop
up in my download from my CD? Thanks --

You might try turning to safe mode and running some other anti-virus
programs such as Spybot and Lavasoft Ad-Aware both of which are free. I
would also suggest that you temporarily turn off System Restore if you find
and remove the problem - otherwise you might automatically restore what you
want to remove. The obvious golden rule though is to remember to switch
System Rrestore back on afterwards.
