BDC TO PDC

I have a buy a brand new computer that is by far more powerful than our old server (PDC). I used it to be a BDC, but I wanted to use
it now for PDC and take off the old server for something else, web server. So can I promote it directly to be a PDC and format my
old server then reinstall ? What should I be aware before to start ? DNS ? Roaming Profile ? Etc...

All you need to do is demote the other server this will move all the fsmo
roles to the remaining server. You will then need to configure any services
on the remaining dc that were on the old dc. DNS if it was AD integrated
simply needs to be installed and the DC pointed to itself.

I'm running on win2000 but I didn't know that, we have a server and I joigned my second one to the domain. What to do to remove the
old one and not break the domain.

Are you running Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000? In Windows 2000 there is not
a concept of a BDC and there is not a PDC, but instead a FSMO role of PDC
emulator for downlevel client compatibility.

But I think there is PDC in Windows 2000, correct me if I'm wrong. You just confused me.

Searching and found some info, there is no concept of PDC but the first DC and emulated DC, something like that, So If I have to
take out the first DC, what should I do ?

If you already have the second DC up and running, you can just run DCPromo
on the first DC and choose to remove the DC functions. The FSMO roles will
transfer to the 2nd DC during this process.
