BCMV3PPC.exe program will not load in Vista - help from anyone

I have tried to install MS's BCMV3PPC patch for Business Contact Manager sync
with Mobile 5 devices. Each time I try to load, it tells me that that it
can't detect ActiveSync 4.5 or above - yep, good call, Vista doesn't have it!

specific message: Installer has not detected Microsoft ActiveSync Version
4.2 or above. Please try to install or upgrade Microsoft ActiveSync, then try
again.

I understand Windows Mobile Device Centre is an "upgrade" of ActiveSync and
hence the "Vista ready" BCMV3PPC patch should recognise that suitable sync
software is installed.

In desperation I have tried using Pocket Mirror, but of it appears that it
looks at WMDC in the same way - ie: no applicable sync software installed in
which case it doesn't work either.

I have checked for WMDC updates and endless other potential "cures" but can
not find anything on MS sites. I'm not a computer expert, but I'm not a
complete and utter nonce either - there's something going on here that is not
obvious, help please!

You should try the following

a.Make sure you have Windows Mobile Device Center Installed on your machine.
You can install it from

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ea-9df9-4920-af33-3a0e2e4e7beb&DisplayLang=en
Once that done it’ll automatically install some updates.

b.Once the update is done make sure by going in to “Control Panel|Programs
and Features†you have these two entries
1. Windows Mobile Device Center
2. Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update

c.Now you should install the BCM mobile application as per your device type.

Hi Vinit,

both were already installed (both dated 2/08/07). Bizzarly I have been
sync'ing with my mobile phone since getting my new computer with Vista and
BCM - just I haven't been able to sync with the BCM contacts etc, only the
regular outlook ones. I checked for the upgrade and was delighted, some time
ago, to find the patch that allows BCM sync. I have tried to load it multiple
times, but cannot find anything obvously wrong that should prevent it. I just
keep getting the same message just after double clicking BCMV3PCC.exe -
"can't detect ActiveSync 4.5 or above".

All I have done is attempt to open the file, it starts to load and then the
message, telling me to do something that the programme should be detecting
that I don't need. Wish I could provide some clues to this but I'm at a total
loss.

thanks

If anyone from Microsoft is reading this....

Tried a reinstall of WMDC with the latest download of drvupdate-x86.
Installed over the top of existing WMDC - all went well. Now no longer have
both WMDC and WMDC Update in my /programm features list, but if the file is
the latest, I guess I'd expect that.

Plugged my phone in and it sync'd as it has done previously - just standard
Outlook contacts, calendar - not BCM (so far so good)

tried again to install BCM3PPC.exe - ran through the usual startup windown
and then hey presto: Installer has not detected Microsoft ActiveSync Version
4.2 or above. Please try to install or upgrade Microsoft ActiveSync, then try
again.

This shouldn't be happening. I've even tried downloading the BCM3PPC.exe
file several times in case I somehow had a dodgy version (yeah I know it was
never going to be this - but hey, I'm desparate to finally get my BCM package
working for my business as I expected it would). help please - we're getting
desparate

thanks

Hi
Just to be sure, you are trying to install this on a Windows Mobile
5.0 Pocket PC and not
a smartphone, since we have a seperate application for that. Is there
a email/phone number i can
contact you on?

Thanks
Vinit
