Battery Status

Hi, I'm running my HP Laptop with Windows XP with 256ram and 30gb, I've tried ACPI but my system didn't worked well, so I tried with "Standard PC" configuration and everything runs in order but the APM options make my computer crash, so I'd dissabled but now I can't see my battery status, so my question is

Anyone knows how to check your battery status without APM or ACPI options enabled

ACPI didn't work very well ? For a recent notebook it should
work very well. How old is this notebook ? Since it's an HP,
it probably runs badly because of all the junk they load on them.

With all the peripherals on a notebook, running a Standard HAL
is going to be an issue with IRQ mappings.

You probably need a BIOS firmware flash and to correctly set
the BIOS options. Just recently I had someone request help on
a brand new HP that was very fragmented and I forget how many
Startups and Watchdogs ran. From power on to useable desktop
took well over 2.5 minutes.
