balloon obscures shut down

Hi, everytime I go to shut down XP Pro I get an irritating little balloon
saying " new programs installed" that floats in front of the turn off
computer button (and points to the "all programs" green triangle), and must
be clicked out of the way to continue to shut down.
Any way to banish this forever?
Thanks
Jeff

Right-click the Start menu > Properties > Customize > Advanced > "Highlight
newly installed programs"

Sure. Right click the start button and then click properties and then the
"customize" button on the "start menu" tab and then the advanced tab and
uncheck "highlight newly installed programs". Now, I know this next one is
going to sound like it's in an odd place and it is. Click start then click
search and then click "change preferences" and then click the arrow beside
"without balloon tips". And now you have another annoyance gone. Also if you
want yet another one. LOL LOL. Windows has a ton of them. Then go into your
folder options in the control panel and click on the "view" tab and scroll
down to the bottom and Uncheck "show pop-up descriptions----". Just goes to
show you that it isn't quite as easy as it seems some times. Enjoy. {]:~)
