Backup Wizard tells me that the D drive is not a valid file name
D:\Backup.bkf So at present I can't use Wizard Backup. I want to use it
before installing SP2
Any suggestions

That depends what your D drive is.........CD? DVD? neither of which will
work with Backup without some special work required on your part.CDRW and
DVDRW can be formatted before hand with a UDF file program and then XP will
treat them like any other HD and backup will work with it.Nero's InCD is one
such program but there are others.

True, using packet-writing software will allow NTBackup to write to a
disc, but it won't allow the backup file to span discs, making it
useless for backups intended for CDR(W) or DVDR(W).
