I have a Seagate tape drive that uses Travan 8GB tapes. I had been
using this drive under Windows Me with its Microsoft Backup. Recently
I upgraded to Windows XP with its Backup Utility.
When I put one of my previously used Travan 8GB Mini-cartridges into
my tape drive, I get the message, "Unrecognized media has been found
in location ‘Seagate STT8000N SCSI Sequential Device' … Do you want to
prepare this media for use with Backup? …" When I click on yes, the
tape is added to a directory called Free Media on the Restore and
Manage Media tab. However, when I go to the Backup tab, the Free Media
directory is not shown as a Backup Destination. Selecting Travan – New
Media does not work.
I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I can use my Seagate
drive and Travan tapes drive with the Backup Utility.
