Backup failure - help requested

My laptop running XP Home SP-2 has been regularly backed up, using the
Windows back-up utility and the "Back-up or Restore Wizzard" to back-up
"Everybody's Files and Settings". During the last few days attempts have
failed with "Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:80042301
Aborting Backup" - the problem recurrs for every attempt unless volume shadow
copy is explicitly disabled. I have been unable to find any reference to
this problem or error code in the Windows Help or MS knowledgebase - can
anyone give advice, please.
[Incidentally, backups of all files and settings with volume shadow copy
disabled succeed.]

Aidan,
Many thanks for that. I didn't need the regsvr32 in the end, but the
article indicated the root cause - com+ events weren't running; so I
restarted both manually (using Iolo System Mechanic!) and all is now well -
they even restarted automatically after a reboot, so the problem is either
solved or at least better understood.
Cheers - one more step toward being a real system administrator!!!

Mike,
I had the same problem. Found this article

It was the part with the command line regsvr32 ole32.dll that fixed my
problem. Rgds,
Aidan
