Could any one give me information on how to make a duplicate of a copy protected
commercial DVD disk for backup purpose.

I have XP computer that I could use and I also have DVD/VCR recorder.

Use DVD Shrink. It is freeware from here http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html In the vast majority of cases it works just fine. However in the event that you need to remove encryption you will need something like AnyDVD http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html which doesn't burn DVDs it just removes encryption and other restrictions. Run DVDShrink. If the DVD can't be copied using it you will get an error message. At that time you can simply run AnyDVD and then try copying the DVD again. This time it should pose no problem. I use this combo on all my new DVDs as I like to have a copy of them at my cottage and one at home.
