I recently got a virus and now I can't change my desktop background. It is
gray all the time, and when I go to properties, I can't click on any of the
previous themes to try and change it. The only time I see the picture that I
have selected is when I start or shut down my computer for a split second.
Any help would be great.

I would suggest as step one to remove the virus.

Are you certain it's a virus? There are many other types of malicious
software.

I'm not sure. I've been running spyware and virus cleaners all day, and I
quarantined and deleted many files that had trojans in them. ANy suggestions
for after i remove them?

Click Start, Run, and type in "regedit" (without the ""'s) and press enter.

Go to and delete the following key (ActiveDesktop) located:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Policies>ActiveDesktop

Try it again.
