Back in the "LooP" with updates on Defender?

Both pc's seem to not accept update 1.13.1314.1 - neither from Automatic
Windows Update, or from manual Defender update. I have tried all the
previous solutions in the forum with no success. Any suggestions this time -
or is the clue to just WAIT a while and hope Microsoft will fix the problem?
Appreciate any suggestions - thanks!

It was a bad idea, I will see if I a system restore copy to go back to
previous version which would be better than 1.0.0 version I have now.

Sorry PJ - tried to warn people - really disheartening to be BEHIND where you
started, isn't it? Hope you find a good Restore Point. I guess when I am
messing with Defender screw-ups I will ALWAYS make sure I have a good Restore
Point before I do ANYTHING - save a lot of extra effort! (Or, I may just
remove Defender until they get the act together.) Good luck!

as mentioned elsewhere to fix this

download : windows install clean up

(sorry lost link)

remove the signatures entry for windows defender using this program, then do
not try an automatic update or microsoft/windows update but update through
windows defender.

all sorted

OK. Sorry it didn`t work for you, I tested the theory on my system before
posting. In my case WD reinstalled and updated without any problems.

I have the Windows Install Clean up - now how do I update through Windows
Defender - not using the manual update or the automatic update???? If you
mean the update on Defender on "About Windows Defender - Check for Update" -
tried that too.

You mentioned automatic updates as being one of the problem areas. Have you
tried to update manually from IE ? Are the following services disabled?

To verify (Windows XP Windows Server 2003). Select:

Start/Run
Type "services.msc"
Click "OK"

Please check the following are started:

1.Automatic Updates
2.Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
3.Cryptographic Services
4.Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
5.System Restore Service

To verify that BITS is correctly configured :

1. Double-click `Background Intelligent Transfer Service.`
2. In the Startup type box, click Manual, and then Apply.
3. Click the `Log On` tab, and then verify that the service is enabled in
every hardware profile that you have listed. If the service is disabled in
one or more hardware profiles, click the hardware profile, Enable, and then
Apply.
4. Click the General tab and then Start.

If BITS starts successfully, visit the Windows Update Web site or the
Microsoft Update Web site to see if you can obtain updates. If it works OK,
change (2.) to automatic.

Hope this post was useful - unlike the last :)

The Signature Version does not update to 1.14.1314.1. Microsoft help is
needed. Windows Onecare tries in vain to do the updating but ends in a loop.
Also stopping Defender and the removal does not work. Trying to install a
fresh Defender ontop is rejected. Microsoft please help.
