"Back Browsing" hijacked

Aloha

Lately, probably after the SP2 upgrade, I frequently have a problem when I
try
to browse backwards in Internet Explorer. A few things seem to happen,
separately or together.

Either I see (in the activity bar at bottom of page) that I am being
directed to an "ad.doubleclick" site that I never even visited, or that I am
connecting to "127.0.0.1" Also, if I check my "back browse" listings
sometimes I will
even see a doubleclick site automatically listed 2 or 3 times when visiting
some sites.

In both cases I'm not able to browse backwards, but just stay at the current
site.
(While the activity bar says I am being redirected to the 127.0.0.1 site).

I have to then QUICKLY click the back button two or three times in order to
return to a previous page.........and then sometimes I wind up jumping two
pages backwards.

I am up to date on all my spyware removal, I have numerous doubleclick sites
blocked in my Internet settings, I have a firewall, and NAV, but this
problem keeps occurring.

Any ideas? Gene

What do you have in your hosts file?
When this happens to me (I do use a hosts file to block banner ads, etc) I
just right-click on the back arrow in the toolbar and select the page I want
to go back to.

Hi

Please try all these programs to check for any spyware that may be on your
system:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://forum.aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.zip
Spy Sweeper - www.webroot.com

Try SpyWareBlaster to stop intrusions:

It wasn't SP2. Doubleclick is spyware. You are not up-to-date.

Hey Lanwrench,
I don't have the OP's prob, but thanks for the tip. I have NEVER right
clicked the back arrow and didn't realize it was possible. Thanks very much.

I'd hereby claim credit for inventing this. said:

You might want to check out this site:

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Around the time you installed SP2 you may have also installed a spyware
blocking program that used the hosts file to block access to known sources
of problems. Also, do you use Spybot S & D? There's a tool available in
advanced mode that adds their hosts file entries to your PC. You may have
activated that line of defense. Search your machine for the hosts file and
open it in notepad. You may find quite a few items listed there.
