AVI Decompressor Error

Hi. I've been having problems with some avi files (others work fine) and
after reading some stuff on here I sound a program called Sherlock to check
my codecs. When I run it I get the following error message:

Warning: The following codecs were found broken:
Video Codecs:

1 AVI Decompressor ()

Click on the respective codecs to see more info

The driver file for this codec was not found.

This probably means the codec was not uninstalled properly

When I click on the codec in the list, no information is listed.

My question is, how do I either re-install it (as it is part of DirectX,
DirectShow I believe the quartz.dll) which doesn't seem to work, or how can I
remove it from the Codec list?

Thank you for the help.

The codecs are not normally part of the DirectX at all. You should be able
to download one of to "mega" downloadable codec distribution which may fix
this.

... et al.

I haven't used 'Sherlock - The Codec Detective', so i don't know if it
will show you what FourCC '1 AVI Decompressor ()' is or not.
But if that program doesn't help you try another program, for example
'GSpot Codec Information Appliance' <http://www.headbands.com/gspot>. It
will scan an AVI file and tell you the Codec(s) it uses, as well as tell
you what Codecs you already have installed on your machine.

That and alternative tools and where to download codecs listed here:
<http://www.fourcc.org/links.php>

For a list of FourCC's Video Codecs with codec-links sometimes:
