If you are running AVG 8.0 please click on "check for updates"
There is a major update to version 89
This is suppose to fix the problem some were seeing in the new firefox
version 2.0.0.13 where the browser was crashing when opened or the AVG
toolbar locked up

It also fixes a few other things too

I do not know if this one fixes the restore point issue- will not know this
until the next normal defintion update because AVG has stated that program
updates will set restore points.

btw you will see another program update soon
to fix the restore points on every definition update
Aland once they fix the restore point issue- at that point you should
install the new version

I spoke too soon about AVG8 not taking up a lot of CPU. It continues to
take up a lot when it is scanning. AVG tech support said it is because I
have other antispyware and antimalware on my computer; viz., SpySweeper,
SuperAntispyware, Ad-Aware, Win Patrol, SpyBlaster, Spyware Guard Live
Update, and WD, and that SpySweeper especially was hanging on to the files,
slowing down the scan. So I removed SpySweeper. There has been a little
improvement. Instead of four hours, it now takes slightly over three for
the scan. Do you think I should remove some more?

I also informed AVG tech support that the scanning process discloses:
"Result/Infection" and lists 586 adwares, loggers, trojans, and downloaders,
but shows no threats. I asked them to explain that and they referred me to
their FAQ, but I could not find the answer there.

I'll probably wait a while longer than that, Robin. I feel very uneasy about
the fact that they released it in this state, so I shall make well and truly
sure that it's settled down before I switch.

depending on the size of the drive it can take up to 3hrs to scan because it
is scanning everything
You can set up a small scan like a program scan to scan program files, my
documents every day but once a month set up a full scan.
There are all kinds of options in the program that allow you to do different
scans
as long as you do not have all these programs running in real time and they
are manual you do not have to remove them.
Personally I find superantispyware works fine running in real time along
side AVG8
I personnally do not like spysweeper- it uses up memory just by itself.
I have it on one computer and it takes 2hrs to scan- that is a 120HD
I have it on another computer and it takes 3hrs to scan (160 Hd)
that is why it is recommended to do the custom scans and leave the whole
computer to scan once a week when you are not sitting in front of it

if you have in "warnings" all these trojans, etc, as activex
imcompatablities- those are false
AVG8 is not compatable with spyblaster and Spybot Search and Destroy
If you want to keep these other programs then just ignore the warnings
As long as there are no infections as in spyware or viruses, don't be
concerned
If there are and you are not sure if they are real you can send them to avg
for them to analize them

I had removed spybot search & destroy some time ago since, with my other
anti-stuff, it was taking up too much CPU. I now removed Spysweeper. I
don't scan with anything if AVG is scanning. If I leave AVG to scan
everything while I'm not at the computer, won't the computer go into sleep
mode? Or does the screensaver appear but the computer continue to operate?

thats it

also I found a problem with this update with link scanner
when bringing up firefox 2.0.0.13 and googling a word, when it goes to the
google search engine, linkscanner starts up but then I get an error msg that
augnsx.exe has to terminate because of an error. This is also happening on
another computer I have where I own the AVG 8.0 antispyware program. This
started happening after thislast program update 8.0.0.90. It did not happen
before.
