Avast! crashes when I exclude a directory

P

Philip K

Avast! keeps finding a virus in "C:\System Volume
Information\_restore{987E0331-0F01-427C-A58A-7A2E4AABF84D}\RP352\A0060364.exe"

I do not want it to do anything about it, so I try to add "C:\System
Volume Information\_restore{987E0331-0F01-427C-A58A-7A2E4AABF84D}\RP352"
to the Excluded paths. As soon as I do so, Avast! crashes and I have to
restart it.

Any ideas?

I don't know why Avast crashes, but if you have XP you can make a new
clean (presumably clean) restore point. Then use Disk Cleanup's More
Options to delete all but the most recent restore point.

If you have ME, then the only way to clear that restore point is to
disable System Restore, reboot, and enable System Restore again.

You have a virus remnant in the WinXP System Restore Cache. You can't exclude it. Either
you have to ignore infectors in the System Restore Cache or you must clear the cache.

I have no idea whether this will work or not but have you tried
excluding "C:\System Volume Information"?

I'd be happy to do that, but can't figure out how. I have tried adding
both "C:\System Volume
Information\_restore{987E0331-0F01-427C-A58A-7A2E4AABF84D}\RP352" and
"C:\System Volume Information", but neither works. And Avast! crashes
when I add the former.

Thanks for the suggestion. That was my first thought, but adding this
directory to the Excluded paths made no difference.
