autotext entries including underlining

Can someone please help me? I am trying to create AutoText entries (or
alternatively macros) where words are underlined and followed by an
underlined space. Then other entries that are also underlined. When typing,
I want to be able to insert the first AutoText entry and then follow it
immediately with another entry that is also underlined. For example, the
first AutoText will be EXAMINATION BY and the next will be PROSECUTOR or
DEFENCE, depending on which AutoText entry. I have tried creating the
entries in various ways, and sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t.
Sometimes the underlining disappears and sometimes I am sent to the line
below. I am obviously doing something wrong. I think the solution to my
problem lies in the paragraph mark after the word I am saving as Autotext.
Should that he included in the AutoText or shouldn’t it? Any suggestions
much appreciated.

Your best bet is not to try to make them underlined. Instead, press Ctrl+U
before typing the beginning of the AutoText entry name. When you have
inserted all the entries that need to be underlined, press Ctrl+U again.

Thanks, Suzanne, but I am afraid I still can’t get this to work. I press
Ctrl-U then the first AutoText, then the second Auto-Text, then Ctrl-U and
everything looks fine, BUT, as soon as I put a space, I pop back into
Underline mode and the following words are underlined. I have even tried
inserting both entries without underlining, then selecting them both and then
pressing Ctrl-U, but once again as soon as I press the space bar, I am back
underlining. This happens whether I use AutoText or AutoCorrect. Grrr!

Pressing Ctrl+Spacebar when you are done underlining should work. If it does
not, then perhaps the style you are using includes underlining?

I have got it! I can now make the AutoText entries with the underlining
without any problems.when they are used consecutively. I don’t have enough
knowledge of Word yet to quite understand why it has to be done this way (and
perhaps there are other ways) but after a lot of trial and error, I can say
that this way it works.
To create the AutoText entry – Ctrl-U, then the words required, followed by
a space, then Ctrl-U, then Home to get back to the left margin, then F8 and
right arrow to select the words and the final space but being careful not to
include the paragraph sign at the end. Then Alt-F3 and name the AutoText
entry.
If I create the entries in this way I can run three or four of them
consequently, for example NO FURTHER CROSS-EXAMINATION BY MR APPEL is
actually made up of four AutoText entries which can be used in different
combinations in different circumstances.
