Autoplay

When I boot up my computer for some reason an "Autoplay" window appears and
the flashlight icon does its thing. I do not have a disc loaded in the tray.
When I try and close the window it won't close and in fact another autoplay
window pops up. I have to close these windows be doing the
Control-alt-delete route via task manager. And from time to time that window
just pops up for no apparent reason. Anyone know whats happening here?

Scan your system for viruses and trojans. Do you have an AV program
installed? Open MSConfig and check your startup list for unnecessary startup
items; uncheck the suspicicious ones and reboot. Have you inserted any CD or
DVD disks lately such as photo CDs?

Install Tweak UI 2.10 / (Powertoys for Windows XP) from the MS website. Then
you can customize your UI to disable AutoPlay by selecting My
Computer|Autoplay|Drives inside TweakUI. I would also scan for
viruses/trojans with more than one AV scanner such as AVG, Panda, F-Secure,
etc. Run MSConfig and check for unnecessary startup entries; disable the
ones you don't need.
