AutoNumber with imported data

I have several common Excel 2003 workbook files (and plan
to have similar future files) that I want to import into
an Access 2003 database table. My database table is an
existing one with many records already in it. It also has
a "Job ID" field with an AutoNumber format. I created
a "Job ID" field in the Excel worksheet but do not have
anything shown in that field because I wanted Access to
create a unique number through AutoNumber. When I import
the worksheet the "Job ID" field is blank. How can I get
Access to create that AutoNumber?

Hi Jim,

This is because Access is importing the existing values in the JobID
field. If you omit the empty JobId field from the Excel sheet, values
will be assigned to the autonumber JobID field in the Access table as
the data is imported.
