Automatic Updates Problem

On 13th April the automatic updates downloaded the following :-
KB908531/911562/890830/912812/911565/911567.
Since this occurred I have been unable to open any files in the Office
suite (except Outlook) by using the Open icon. I can open them by double
clicking on them in Windows Explorer. Also I cannot open MY Computer from
Windows Explorer. In all cases the cursor changes to the egg timer and
remains in that condition. If I close the program using Ctrl,Alt.Del it
creates a dump.
I have reloaded the Office suite and the condition is the same.
Can Microsoft please verify whether there is a problem in one of
these updates or not.

There have been reports of problems with KB908531. Go to Add/Remove
Programs and mark the checkbox for "show Updates". Then uninstall just
KB908531 and see if that solves the issue.

One can disable the HP Share to Web "service" from running at Startup by
using msconfig, restarting the system, do the update, restart the
system, and then reenable it if one actually **uses** it.

How to troubleshoot by using the System Configuration utility in Windows XP

The HP files are

hpgs2wnd.exe
hpgs2wnf.exe

Malke,
Removing KB908531 fixed the problem but this update was reloaded
on 16/4/2006. Is there any way of stopping this download until the problem is
resolved.

MS has written a new Knowledge Base article about the (widespread)
problems with this update:

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015
