Automatic Updates Keeps Running

Automatic Updates keeps running the same patch.

Windows XP Hotfix - KB835732 was installed via Automatic
Updates when it was initially released (04/12/04) and when
it was recently updated (05/04/04). However, since
05/04/04 it notifies every day, and sometimes several
times a day, that KB835732 needs to be installed; which I
do every time. It is showing in Add/Remove so I know it
has installed successfully. Also, if I go to MS Windows
Update website and scan for updates no critical updates
are available (except SP1, not installing due to known
issues).

Any guidance would be appreciated.

SP1 known issues ? Youre info is wrong,SP1 is really required to instal
most of the updates,w/o it youre system is out-of-sync.Maybe youre thinkin
of SP2 which has a few flaws but works very well.

If you are hearing SP1 has issues, you are listening to the wrong people.
You can not fully fun XP and get the needed updates without it.

Thank you for replying, but you did not answer my question
or the root of the issue - why does Automatic Updates
continual install KB835732.

Since the release of SP1, there have been MANY instances
of users installing SP1 and more problems occurring. True
most people have successfully installed it, but there is a
significant amount of people were not as fortunate. I
myself had many problems after installing SP1, which
resulted in a reimage in order to restore. In fact, this
forum was flooded with issues when it first came out, so
my statement is not off base.

You are incorrect that "SP1 is really required to install
most of the updates." All of the major patches or
critical updates can be installed independently from SP1.
SP1 is merely a "package" of all updates from the
production release XP to late Aug 2002. So long as all
updates are applied, a computer is just as up-to-date
or "in-sync" as a computer that has SP1.

I've been SP1-free for almost 2 years and have had no
problems or lacking in any way. So just what am I missing
from not installing SP1?

Open Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel to see if KB835732 is
listed.

Go here :
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS04-011.mspx

Under the " General Information " heading click the plus sign next to
Security Update Information, click the plus sign next to
Windows XP (all versions). Scroll down to " File Information " and
compare the versions of callcont.dll, mst120.dll, and nmcom.dll
with the files on your system ( make sure you choose pre-SP1 or with
SP1 to match your installation ). They are located in the Program
Files\NetMeeting folder. Right click the files, choose Properties,
click the Version tab. If these files match, the update is showing in
Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, and the registry key matches
(it is given on the above page under "Verifying Update Installation")
then the update is installed and not being detected by the Windows
Update site. This is a known issue .

Hopefully the update will be refreshed soon.

Thanks for the informational and helpful reply MowGreen.
I confirmed every way possible that the hotfix _is_
installed, but unfortuntely yet another known issue for XP.
