'automatic resize of Textbox to fit text' does not work

Q

While I was editing the Textbox, hitting of 'Enter' key was resulting
in bigger and bigger text box. This became annoying when I had to
enter additional text, it never did the automatic resizing of text and
the text box got bigger further, and it is now much bigger than the
slide layout size.

I also checked that the properties of this box were to:
'Word wrap text in Autoshape' - enabled
'Resize autoshape to fit text' - enabled

But, it does not work in that way. How else I can enable the feature
such that the text within the textbox are automatically resized to fit
to the slide layout/screen?

Good to quote the version you use.

I'm guessing 2007
Try "Shrink Text on overflow"
I use "MS Powerpoint 2003 SP2". I cannot find 'Shrink Text ..' option
anywhere. If it is not available in the 2003 version, let me know the
workaround.

In 2003 this setting is not available for normal textboxes.

-However if your "textbox" is really a text placeholder (the ones with
"click to add text") then

Tools > Auto correct options > auto format as you type

Tick "Auto fit body / title text to placeholder"

I right clicked on it, and it showed 'Format Placeholder'. Hence I
guess it is a text placeholder.

Tick "Auto fit body / title text to placeholder"
The checkbox is already enabled. I got the same answer when I was
browsing through the web, but it didn't help.

Just because it's a placeholder doesn't make it a text placeholder

The different types work differently if the resize text option is checked

Text Placeholder
Works as you expect

Title placeholder (It doesn't expect large amounts of text)
Resizes text once and then overflows.

Content Placeholder - you can add text but ...
Does not resize text at all

If you select the slide and click Format > slide layout you should be able
to see if you have a content layout. Also if you clear all text from the
placeholder the "message" will say either:

Click to add Text = Text placeholder
Click to add (sub)Title = Title Placeholder
Cick icon to add Content=Content placeholder

This is what I'm getting. When I checked 'Format->slide layout' it
shows 'Title and Text' layout, and the box that I'm talking about is
for the 'Text' part
So, it doesn't seem to be working as we all expect. Could that be a
bug?

I am actually having the same problem. It is a powerpoint that was handed from my boss to me but I am fairly certian that it is origianlly and is also being edited in PPT 2003.

He gave it to me to fix the body text formatting issues, although ironically I am running into the problem described above that cannot seemed to be solved.

Even though the proper "word text wrap in autoshape" box is checked, and I checked that it was indeed a "text" box placeholder...no luck. I have tried deleting the box and re-making it and even re-typing the text into the new one but to no avail. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
