Automatic capitalization after a sentence ending with a number

Whenever a sentence ends in a number, Word will not capitalize the first word
of the following sentence. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm using Word 2003.

Sorry, it's a bug. They changed it for numbered lists and screwed it up.
Nothing you can do.

I guess that I learned to type before the dawn of computers. 1946 to be
exact. Therefore, it is automatic for me to type the first character of a
sentence in upper case. It's really no bug. However, I agree that one can do
nothing about it. How often does one see a sentence end with a number. If
that number is less than 10, it should be spelled out as in nine. Then there
is no problem.

I am thankful daily that I learned to type on a typewriter, though at
the time I remember some annoyance that the next class after mine had
computers. But it's a bug because a) it didn't use to happen and b) the
code doesn't match the intended design for the program.

I work at a law firm and we send out correspondence that references numbered
sections, numbered paragraphs, as well as purchase price, selling price,
balance due, etc.; thus quite a few of the sentences I type end with numbers.

To add to what the others have said, see “Word does not capitalize the first
letter of a sentence†at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291538. Apparently
there was a demand to be able to type numbered lists in which the list items
were not capitalized, and the fix was (inadvertently, one hopes) made more
general than intended. The standard answer is that "There are two Shift keys
on every keyboard," but this is not much consolation when you have become
spoiled by Word's previous behavior.
