Autocompleting address is wrong

W

Wowbagger

Using Outlook XP, when I start to type an email address in the TO: line I
get a small dropdown with a few suggested possibilities for a completed
email address. These are not contacts. One of the addresses contains a
typo that I would like to remove/correct, but since it is not a contact I
can not find it anywhere. Where do I find these and how do I edit them?

Thank you

This is great to know. However, if there is only one name
so you don't get the autocomplete drop-down, it
just "completes" the name, what do you do then?

If there is only one entry, the easiest way is to close Outlook and search
your computer for a hidden file named outlook.nk2 (Outlook 2002) and delete
it. That will clear the cache. When you start Outlook, it will create a
new cache file as needed.

Well, i deleted the contact name in the address book then re-added it
manually and it didn't seem to make any difference but i'm going to try
deleting that cache file someone mentioned.

Hi

Thank you for the posting. As you indicated, you wouls like to
remove/correct the incorrect autocomplete email address.

To work around this behavior, begin by typing the name and then, when the
AutoComplete list appears, press the DOWN ARROW key to select the address
of the deleted contact and press the DELETE key to remove the entry from
cache.

How to Correct Single Auto-complete Entries

Single Auto-complete entries (Auto-complete entries that show only one item
in the list) cannot be deleted. To correct the incorrect entry, add a
second entry that uses the same first three letters as the original, and
then delete the incorrect entry. Use the following steps to delete the bad
entry:

1. In a new e-mail message, in the To box, type the correct name (the first
three letters must be the same as the old incorrect one).

2. In the CC box, type the first three letters of the recipient to reveal
the auto-correct name list with both entries now showing.

3. Use the arrow keys to move the selection to the incorrect entry, and
then press DELETE.

Hope the above information and suggestion helps and answers your question.
If anthing is unclear, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Cherry Qian
