Autocomplete file/Cached Exchange Mode

We are on Windows XP using Outlook 2003 with Exchange server 2003.

By default, everyone in our firm is set up to use Cached Exchange Mode. One
user was having an issue - something related to the fact that he has tons of
folders/emails under his inbox, and that feature was turned OFF for him.
He's reported that since that setting was changed, his autocomplete file is
no longer storing new addresses for longer than one session. (This feature
IS turned on in options).

I deleted his NK2 file, but the problem is still happening. I even copied
his NK2 file to my PC and turned off my exchange mode, but it's working fine
for me. On difference is that my inbox is quite clean.

So even though it's not a clearcut case of cached exchange mode causing this
problem, is there any way, however remote, that changing that setting caused
the problem?

And if not, outside of deleting his NK2 file, what can we try to resolve the
issue? I have scoured the internet looking for information on this topic,
but haven't found any other helpful suggestions. My next step will be to
delete his EMAIL profile, unless I can find a better answer.

Recreating the mail profile is indeed the solution when renaming it to .old
doesn't work.
