auto update- lost file

Hi Folks,
I have a user on a Win XP Pro machine using Office 2003. The machine auto
installed updates and began asking for a reboot. My user continually declined
as he was working on a Word doc for a long time. He got up for something and
returned to find the machine rebooted itself automatically. I need to know if
the file is lost or if Windows would have saved it somewhere automatically
before restarting. I thought XP didn't auto restart until the user told it to
do so. Is there anyway to recover this file? Thanks!

Yeah, eventually XP will restart itself. It is a STUPID "feature" that came
in SP2. I hate it and it has caused me a lot of problems! Someone actually
found out how to fix Microsoft's mistake! Here is the URL that fixes this
