auto update downloaded sp2 but no install

Randall

Automatic update prompted me to download SP2. I told it to
download. I went out of the room for a bit to allow time
for the download and came back expecting to see a prompt to
install it (which is how I have automatic update
configured), but I didn't and I haven't seen it yet. What
could have happened? If it downloaded it, automatic update
isn't going to fetch it again I suppose, and yet I don't
seem to have any way of installing it (except waiting for
the CD which I expect will be about six months to actually
get it once they make it available). thanks

right-click on my computer, its not listed. SP2 will
install in the background as to "Not interrupt" your
work. You may need to reboot...who knows...

There is a glitch in the "Notify but don't download"
function. It hangs and nothing is ever downloaded. MS is
aware of this. See Jupiter Jones followup post re this

I have the same problem but I can't find the post you want us to refer to.
Please help by telling me what it says so I can get SP2 to download. Thanks.

Just set your Update option to automatically send---not to notify first.

You know, I did that before and it still didn't download. Further, when you
select auto you have to select a specific hour each day for it to look for
possible downloads. Why can't they just let you select that option without
also having to select a specific hour? That way it will always be looking
for updates. Seems reasonable to me. I currently have it set to
automatically download and let me decide when to install. I assume that this
option is working correctly. Am I right? Even so, still nothing being
downloaded as yet.

Below is the entire thread:

Nate, the same thing has happened to me as well. I tried updating my
computer
and also my mom's computer. It says that I have updates ready for my
computer, I click it, and I choose to Download XP SP2. The window
disappears
and so does the "Windows Update" globe down in the Task Bar. Any
help would
be gladly appreciated.

Maybe it's still downloading. It is very large and when you use Auto
Update, it trys to make sure that normal browsing will not be slowed
down, thereby slowing down the download of the patch.
