auto table of contents possible ?

Hi I am using office -word 2007 and have a document that I have modified.
The table of contents needs to be corrected as it still has the contents from
the original document. Is there any way to automatically generate a table of
contents just listing bullet titles and their corresponding page number? If
this is the case I could just delete the old table of contents and then auto
generate a new one.
Thanks.

Hi that seemed to work thanks! Do you know if it just uses the common
heading type to know what to put into the TOC? All of my bullets are set to
heading style 2 and it seemed to pick these up.

Have you tried just updating the existing TOC (F9)?

The default TOC (what you get if you don't change any of the settings in the
TOC dialog) shows three levels, based on the outline levels applied to the
styles in the document. Headings 1-3 have outline levels 1-3, and there are
a few other styles (Title, Subtitle, and perhaps others) with default
outline levels higher than Body Text. The default TOC also has hyperlinked
entries and page numbers with period leaders. Any and all of these
properties can be changed; see

Along this same vein, I am working a manual right now in Word 2003. Created
the automatic TOC, however, when I try to update using F9, the entire manual
triplicates! I have gone from 300+ pages to 1260 pages! I do love the undo
button! What have I done or should I do?

I would guess that this is nothing to do with the TOC. Are you updating just
the TOC or all the fields in the document?

Yes, only updating the TOC.

I'm having a hard time imagining what could be causing this. Does the
document contain section breaks? Manual page breaks?
