Auto fill/passwords will not work

Running XP on new Vaio with SP2. Under main user will not auto fill in IE
6.0, and will not remember passwords. All appropriate boxes are checked in
Tools, and the Use inline...is checked under advanced.

It DOES remember web address when I begin to type them, so it is only the
passwords and other entries in web forms that will not remember (drop down
box).

I have been reading posts and trying different remedies all night (to no
avail). I created a new user account, and everything (passwords, auto fill)
works under that, but I have a ton of programs and files already loaded under
my original account, that I don't know how to effectively transfer (I tried
once and got an error message - and from what I read I can't transfer my
Outlook files that way either. Any help is appreciated.

Make sure the Protected Storage service is running.
E.g. open a command window and see what you get from the following:

sc queryex ProtectedStorage

BTW searching with that service name finds this,
which strangely does not mention the service:

<title>KB885180 - The AutoComplete feature does not work after you enable it in Internet Explorer on a computer that is running
Windows XP Home Edition</title>

gThanks for the info - I had already tried that too. I spent 2 hrs on the
phone with Microsoft - they were incredibly helpful..I spoke with folks from
SP2, Windows XP. They guided me through every solution, decided it was a
corrupt user account, and walked me though it all making sure I lost nothing,
including Outlook files.
