auto archive problem in outlook 2007

Hi all

Please tell me if you can reproduce this bug (or what I think is a bug):
- on Outlook 2007 on Win Vista Ultimate 64bits
- in settings, tell Outlook that the older elements (older than 6 months)
must move from the main personal pst to the archive pst. Apply the same rule
to all folders.
- On ONE folder of main_personal.pst, right click > properties > auto
archive, then set an option for not obeying the general auto archive rule,
set the option to send the elements older than 12 months into archive*.pst
- in archive folders, you can right click and set the options so that all
elements should be totally deleted after 24 months.
- Run auto archive and check the radio button that says the auto archive
should follow each folder's auto archive rule.
- You should get an error message saying to check the deleted items.
- In this folder, an element called "Archive Log." says for each folder in
the main pst :
"Error while archiving folder "Deleted Items" in store "Personal Folders".
The file C:\Documents and Settings\Me\My Documents\archive.pst cannot be
opened."

Thanks an see you

where are your personal folders stored? Vista doesn't use the 'my docs'
folder path. Is this a new computer or did you upgrade from XP? Did you move
the profile from another computer or create it from scratch?

I always create a new pst in my docs
It's a new computer with a new windows vista installation, a new office
installation, and a new pst, everything new! :)
But I did import some datas from an Outlook 2003 pst into this outlook 2007
pst

did you try to reproduce the bug?

thanks

Try creating a new profile - unless you created that exact folder path on
your computer, it does not exist. The vista path is C:\Users\....

Aaah thanks , your post made me find the cause of the problem!
In the "main" pst folder, I was right clicking on , for example, the
"deleted items" folder, and going to "properties".
Then "autoarchive" tab then "archive this folder using these settings"
Then choosing "move old items to" then clicking the "browse" button then
choosing the folder C:\Users\me\Documents\blahblah\archive.pst
Then click OK in the file browser...
What I was NOT paying attention to, is that, despite all these clicks, the
folder path under the "move old items to" was staying the same as before:
the path of my pst file on my old computer running winxp. Perhaps this is
the bug.
Solution: I have to start windows vista's file explorer, browse to the
location of the pst, copy the address as text, and paste it in the text
filed under "move old items to".
Then running autoarchive works without a problem.

So thanks again Diane and have a great day :)

Interestingly, if you type "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\" into a Run box, it still opens
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook, which is where my .pst
files appear to be stored.

in order to provide backwards compatibility with older apps, calls to the
old location are passed to the new location. If you upgraded from WindowsXP,
the old folders were replaced with shortcuts. For whatever reason, the
pointer was not working with Outlook.
