Authoring mode for consoles

I want to adjust my msc consoles like %systemroot%
\system32\devmgmt.msc. Though I log on with admin rights, open the
console as admin, and uncheck File - Options - 'Do not save
changes' , the decisive submenu File - Save remains greyed out. Any
help appreciated. Sven

Well you very nearly answered your own question.

Instead of right-clicking a shortcut to it and choosing 'Run as
administrator', choose the 'Author' option instead in the same list.

I enabled administrator rights to the consoles permanently, not by
rightclick. To allow modifications, I always chose rightclick -
"Author". Yet "Save" stays greyed out. Only "Save as" allows to save a
modification as e.g. devmgmt2.msc.

Ok, gotcha. Well you can also try overwriting the original using 'Saveas',
and the using same name as the original. Windows File Protection may come
into play there, but not necessarily.

.... or 'Windows Resource Protection' as I think it's now known.
