This may help with the PC...I finally figured out why
embedded sound (wav files) would not play in the
background on my desktop with IE6 (sp2 and all security
updates) WinXP-HomeEd. I could play the same embedded .wav
files on my notebook configured with the same IE6 and
Operating system. I tracked down a difference in the
registry between the two computers.
The "EmbedExtnToClsidMappings for .wav files was missing
on the desktop. I don't know what installation or upgrade
deleted it. I,ve noticed several News posts regarding
missing sounds, maybe they have a similar problem as I.
BTW I noticed that setting "Play sounds in Web pages" in
IE6 advanced options doesn't matter. An embedded sound
like the pronounciations that can be found on Merriam-
Webster's Dictionary site still play irrespective of the
setting of "play sounds"
Below is the content of the .reg file that was needed
needed to add a ".wav" file to my IE6 embeddedmappings in
the registry.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\EmbedExtnToClsidMappings\.wav]
"MPlayer2.Set"="yes"
@="clsid:05589fa1-c356-11ce-bf01-00aa0055595a"
Hope this helps

I have linked an MP3 streaming file from a realserver to
an Active X RealOne Player in my website but the audio
will not play in Explorer 6 from my PC. But it will play
from my colleagues' PCs which are configured the same.
The audio will also not play on a Mac running Explorer.
Any help is appreciated.
