Audio on storyboard too fast

We can play a MPG file in MS Media Player just fine. We can preview the same
clip in MM just fine. When we move the clip to storyboard, the sound is
compressed to half the time and it sounds like a chipmunk. We have updated
the codecs, we have removed the acceleration of the audio card, we have
updated DirectX, and we have tried it on two different computers. Any other
ideas?

It is actually a MPEG-1 file and I have been having trouble converting it to
an AVI using MM and also a shareware converter. Trying this clip on a XP SP2
computer it works fine. Could this be that the computers are running XP sp1
(with all security patches) and not SP2?

I converted the MPEG to AVI and still the audio is twice as fast as video on
the storyboard.
