attachments won't open

certain attachments will not open. I receive a message saying the messaging
interface has returned an unknown error - retart Outlook. (that doesn't work).
If I save the atttachment as "all files" I can go back and open the
attachment. Additionally, the XML Editor also opens the attachment.

This problem appeared following an uninstall and reinstall of Office.

Any help as how I can simply click on these attachments and open them would
be appreciated. Thanx!

What version of Outlook are you running and what mode (Corp/Workgroup,
Internet Mail Only, etc.) do you have it installed in? If you're not
sure, check Help | About.

What kind of attachments are they?

Mr. Schorr,

Thank you for your response!

The version is MS Outlook 2003 (11.6359.6412) SP1.

I do not know what mode; where would I find that info, it wasn't listed in
the "Help-About" section. As for the kind of attachment, I can only say that
upon saving one of these attachments, then going to its properties area it
says; "Type of file; Outlook Item". The icon for these attachments is the
MS Windows Logo.

As mentioned previously, before I did the re-install, these attachments
opened with no problem.

Again, Thank you!

Mode applies only to Outlook 98 and 2000. OL 2003 doesn't have modes.

What file type does the attachment have?

Which what application did they open?

Thanx Brian for your response. The only thing I can tell you is that I have
to right click the attachment icon, than "save as" an "all files" (only after
repeated savings if it was forwarded, then forwarded again (and again etc).
When the attachment is saved as a message file, it will not open. Apparently
MS Outlook receives an email and if it has attachments they are in a .msg
format. Some how or another, my Outlook will not open this type of file.
Any idea how to dictate file formats to Outlook? Thanks again!

Hm. It should.

I don't understand this. You can certainly associate the .msg file type
with Outlook, if that's what you mean.
