How do you put an attachment 'in' the text of the email rather than noting it
up by the subject line? What I'm looking for is the applicable
Word/Excel/PowerPoint icon within the actual email noting the attachment?

html and plain text formatted messages it is in the attachment line
rich text formatted messages it is in the body of the message

What dlw said. Keep in mind that only Outlook can decode Rich Text
formatted messages.
