Athlon 64 system & usb card reader problem

Just put together a system based on a Athlon 64 3200 cpu and Fujitsu-Siemens
D1607 motherboard. I have a new USB internal card reader which works great
on two other systems but when it is installed in the Athlon 64 system it
randomly isn't recognised. . Sometimes on bootup it's not there, sometimes
it's not there after a restart from hibernation and sometimes I get a
message after a start-up from standby that a USB device is not recognised by
windows. I use XP with servicepack 1 and I have installed the latest board
BIOS and VIA 4in1 drivers. The card reader works fine so it must be a board
or XP problem, anyone any ideas?

cheers

What sort of internal cardreader? In my recently-built P4 Shuttle mini
system my Addonics reader is giving me all manner of problems that sound
much like yours. It works fine when it decides to but at other times it is
invisible to the OS and card changes almost always cause problems. Haven't
found a solution for my problem yet but if your card reader happened to be
of the same brand (or was built by the same unknown far-eastern supplier) we
might have a clue.

Hi,

I also had trouble with a cheap internal card reader. So I got one from
Scan (www.scan.co.uk) which was a bit more money but works great, plus it
has a blue LED on the front ! If you are not in the UK then not sure where
you could get one from
