ATA 133 and PC4800 E Delux

Hi,

I am just about to put a new system together (first time i have done
it!) and i have purchased the P4C800 E Delux mobo. I have also got a
Maxtor Diamond plus ATA133 hard drive.

I have read the motherboard manual and noticed that any mention of
ATA133 is done in conjunction with raid. I dont understand raid at all.

Does the hd i have purchased just plug into the ide slot on the
motherboard or becuase its ATA133 does it have to go somewhere else. I
am sorry if this seems like a really stupid question!

Whilst i am writing i have another question someone might be able to
help me with. I have got a thermaltake Xaser III case which has on the
top mic, speaker and usb sockets. Can i plug the mic and speaker sockets
onto the mobo and use them as well as being able to use the standard
sockets for speakers on the rear of the mobo. I would like to be able to
have my speakers plugged into the rear of the pc then plug my headphones
in whilst playing games

kind regards

John

If you want ATA133 in a non-RAID configuration, you'd best get the P4P800
Deluxe. It's got the VIA IDE ATA133 RAID controllers which also work as
standard IDE channels. Otherwise you're stuck with ATA100 of the Intel ICH5.

The latter is quite alright, since no single IDE drive is capable
of transfer rates anywhere near ATA100 speeds anyway.

Stick with your P4C800 E-DL. It's a fine motherboard.
Since you're not using a (multi-drive) RAID setup, just connect
your hard drive to the primary IDE controller (blue socket),
jumper it as MASTER, and away you go.

Good luck.
