AssocIsDangerous

Downloaded serive pack updates for XP Home Edition.

Windows XP will not start now. As soon as it powers up,
it gets a error of :

winlogon.exe- "Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point AssocIsDangerous could not be
located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll."

followed by:"User Interface Failure
The Logon User Interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load.
Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL, or
restore the original DLL."

Tried going in safe mode, does not work. Neither does
safe mode with command prompt. Same errors keep appearing.

No other options from here seem to work either.

Thanks.

I had this exact set of symptoms and error messages, including not
able to boot into safe or even command line.

this works: get xp cd, boot from it and select the "install windows xp
option" then on next screen, select the "R" for repair installation.
It never gives you a warm fuzzy about repairing, it looks like it's
doing a "from scratch" install, but it saves all installed programs
and data just fine. It does ask for serial number and asks for
configuration just as if it were a new install, but it DOES WORK.
