associating the scroll wheel with a program

well let me explain this problem.

I have this one program (It's a MUD client, text-based game thing) and on my
old Win 98 system with a GE optical mouse I was able to use the scroll wheel
to control the scroll bar. However, on my new computer with Windows XP and a
Dell optical mouse and the exact same version of the program, the scroll
wheel won't operate the scroll bar.

Anyone have any ideas how to associate my scroll wheel with this program? It
was obviously possible.

Make sure that you have the latest mouse driver from Dell and that the wheel
is activated the way that you want in the driver.

Open Device Manager > Expand "Mice and other..." > Double click your mouse
name > Go to "Advanced" tab > Choose "Assume wheel is present" > Clcik ok.

I am not sure that you have the same options or not. But my wheel worked
after that
