Associating files

I put a shortcut of an ASCII file on my desktop for convenient opening.
This text file is the output (currently with an extension of .C09) of a DOS
program I still use regularly. My intention was to be able to click on the
shortcut and open it in the DOS program.

I went through the process to set up an association for it, using the Browse
button to find the DOS program (in the same sub-directory as the C09 file)
that can open it.

When I clicked on that program, the association "editor" immediately
associated the text file with Adobe Acrobat Reader, which, of course, will
not open it. Repeated attempts gave the same result.

What the ... ?

PS. I know there are other ways of handling an operation like this, but I
already have an operation like this working on a separate/similar file
(.S09).

One useful test would be to search the hard drive for any other
files of type .CO9 or .C09. (I find none here, where Reader v.8 is used.)
If you have none, you should be able to reset File Association to link
the filetype .C09 to your DOS app. (I would do this by highlighting a
..C09 file then Right Shift and Click to get the menu Open With . . .
and browse to your DOS app. Do this once to test that it works,
and then a second time, this time with the box checked "Always
use this app . . . "
