Assigned MSI packages not appearing on user desktops

Hello. I've been experimenting with MSI packages, and they work great
except for one problem.

I thought that by assigning a package (in this case Activestate's
Activepython) that some kind of shortcut would appear on the users startmenu
and python files would be automatically associated, so that by clicking on
the Activepython icon in the start menu, or on a Activepython file the
Activepython software would be automatically installed. However this didn't
happen. However if I look in Add/Remove programs Activepython is sitting
with the option to remove it. What is going on here?

I placed the Activepython msi package file in a share accessible by all
users in the domain. I then created a GPO and used the default permissions,
I finally added the network location of the msi package and said it was an
assigned package.

This set of steps worked fo published packages. The package I wanted
published appear in the Add/Remove programs window on my client machine, and
when I said to add it, away it went.

Am I missing some extra step for the assigned packages?

are you assigning to users or computers?

if u assign to users, the s/ware installs at
login...assign to cmps, then it installs b4 login.

however the fact that it appears in control panel
indicates that installation has been succesful, how did
you get ur msi? did you author it urself, recapture it or
is it from the suplier? Maybe there are no suitable
shortcuts in the package?
