Well, when one is looking for one thing, one finds another. One site
mentioned ascii art so I took a peak. That site then mentioned the ng
alt.ascii-art. I right away started reading the FAQ and so in less
than 15 minutes from beginning to end of getting program, I can do
this in 2 seconds:

___ _
| _ ._ / _|_ _|_ |_ o _ _ ._ _ _. _|_ )
_|_ _> | | |_ |_ | | | _> (_| | (/_ (_| |_ o
_|

Of course, other styles are possible, just by clicking a button or
pressing F3 or F4 in a program called FIGWin (fgwnbeta.zip on ftp
address below):

+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
|I|s|n|'|t|t|h|i|s|g|r|e|a|t|?|
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

_ __ _ _
| |/ /_____ _| | |
| ' // _ \ \ /\ / / | |
| . \ __/\ V V /| |_|
|_|\_\___| \_/\_/ |_(_)

__ __ ____
/ //_/__ _ __/ / /
/ ,< / -_) |/|/ / /_/
/_/|_|\__/|__,__/_(_)

p.s., if you're using Agent, change the following so that you can see
the above correctly spaced:

OPTIONS > DISPLAY PREFERENCES > I changed the VARIABLE PITCH BODY and
VARIABLE BODY to Courier 8pt. I can see the above is it should be
displayed. The FAQ over at alt.ascii-art lists how to change in other
apps (Netscape newsreader, etc.).

Just thought I'd pass this along. There is also an app to use with
proportional spacing called ANYFONT.zip and apparently that
compensates. But I'm using this one as all the art in that ng seems
to

Anyfont supposedly just converted one of the above to a format
proportional spacing can see. How is it?:

_ __ _ _
| |/ / ___ __ __| | | |
| ' / / _ \\ \ /\ / /| | | |
| . \| __/ \ V V / | | |_|
|_|\_\\___| \_/\_/ |_|(_)

Anyway, in case anyone was interested. I was reading about actual
ascii art, versus text effects. Once I know what the app is, will
advise.

Here is ftp site:
ftp://ftp.figlet.org/pub/figlet/program/windows/

ascii text effect generator, FIGWin:
fgwnbeta.zip from the site above

and once text effect generated and copied to clipboard via FIGWin,
input from clipboard via ANYFONT feature:
anyfont.zip from the site above.

Both are no install files and are freeware as far as I can tell.

Cheers!

You might want to explore
http://dmoz.org/Arts/Visual_Arts/ASCII_Art/
for other free tools and ascii masterpieces.

I like to paste Ascii holiday art into e-mail: it's fun, but small enough
not to offend recipients, and it doesn't require an attachment... just
monospaced (fixed-pitch) text.

Thanks for the link.

I found a freeware app, again in and amongst all the previous ascii
art posts that dl upon first subscribing.

PixTexter is absolutely incredible. Just load a graphic file into the
program and it converts easily and quickly to ascii.

Again, though nowhere does it say that it's freeware, that I could
see, it doesn't say that it isn't amongst the large blurb about
commercial distribution. And nothing comes up on installing.

Enjoy!
