release note for the HD363N firmware NetHDD007-0820

From Argosy support for the latest firmware on their site

Firmware Version: NetHDD007-0802

Fixed issues:

- Files can't be moved from a folder into its subfolder.

- The FILECHECKMD5 program, that is able to generate a MD5 checksum, reports an error while comparing a copied folder (with many subfolders and files).

- Delete a shared folder from the web admin interface of the HD363N; it sporadically does not seem to work correctly.

- Renaming of files or folders doesn't work if the file name stays the same and only capitalization shall be different

- Problem with the new password policy.

- The execution of a 16-bit Windows program directly from a shared folder of the HD363Ndoes not work, if the program has a name, that does not match the old DOS 8.3 naming convention.

- From time to time, the HD363N is no longer functional and has to be rebooted.

- FTP Security hole – it is possible to access secured folders when you know their name.

- During file operations, folders with special characters appear on the HD363N.

- Excel can't overwrite existing files. Folders are renamed when copied onto HD363N.

- If a file named "füße" is copied via drag & drop to HD363N the file is no longer readable

- An Outlook pst-file is not readable when copied to HD363N

- Edit existing Word 2000 files on the HD363N, the files are destroyed.

- 16bit program) cannot run if it resides in a folder with name including German special characters

- All files/folders of HD363N are shown in Windows Explorer only after refreshing sight. At first there is only a part of this folder/files visible

Have two questions I couldn't find answers for, I ask for help:

1) will I loose settings after firmware upgrade?
2) will I loose any data from HD after fw upgrade?

Thanks!

No, settings and data remain. I upgraded to the lastest frimware and
my drive has been online for several days when before it would die
within a day or so.

I have followed your good news and upgraded from latest tritton to
newest argosy... now I have corrupted files and folders :retard:

my advice: stay with tritton fw

When I upgraded to the latest the scan did find a bunch of bad files
the first time I ran it. There have been no more since. I beleive
that the latest firmware is better at finding bad files and
preventing more from getting corrupted. So far all the problems I was
having with the drive crashing are gone!

I too have a 363n (firmware 007-1005) but with another problem.

Copying files to the drive-> OK
access with FTP or windows-explorer -> OK

access of files (mp3) on drive with an application like e.g. MP3TAG or
AlbumCoverArtDownloader -> it does not find any files !? it does
find (sub)directories !?

anybody else have this problem ????

Windows Media Player works fine on my drive. Some applications can't
deal with network paths and you have to map drive letters to the
drive folders to access them. Could that be your problem?

By the way, my drive is still up after three weeks - best I could do
before was a couple days  .

Nope,

that's not it

I have mapped drive-letters to the shares but the applications just
don't see the files

This may be obvious, but have you checked the IP config on each
device? Perhaps they're using the same IP address?

I renamed the second one to "backup-xxxx" and the original
retains the "storage-xxxx" moniker.
This sounds like a device with the same/ similar firmware to my
external box.
Try disabling the DHCP on the device you can access and setting
it's IP address high into the range of your local network. For example,
my house has 10.0.0.2 as the modem-DHCP server-gateway, various
machines attaching in the DHCP range 10.0.0.5 to 10.0.0.20 (I only have
an 8-port hub), then the print server is hard set at 10.0.0.248 and the
file server at 10.0.0.250.
If this is gobbledegook to you, then you need a primer in TCP/IP
networking. Of which there are plenty. The Linus Network
Administrator's Guide (NAG) is a good, and freely available, primer.
It's available in several formats for online or offline browsing at
http://tldp.org/guides.html#nag2 (if you're messing with your
connectivity, you should have it locally available in case you screw
your connection).

This verison is also must, if you want to access the drive in
Windows Vista. Apart from this patch, you
also need to the following:

Click "Start -> Run." Then, type in the Run field:
"secpol.msc." That will bring you to Vista's security policy
system. Once there, use "Go to: Local Policies > Security
Options" and then find "Network Security: LAN Manager"
authentication level. Once there, change the Setting from "Send
NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM -- use NTLMv2
session security if negotiated."

Enjoy

I wanted to let others know that I recently purchased a TRI-NSS001
enclosure made by tritton technologies from tigerdirect for 79$(89-10
rebate). (same box as the HD363N)

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1209341

It had firmware level NetHDD007-1005 loaded on it. I could not get
this level to work properly. I would copy a .txt file or .jpg file to
the nas and try to look at it and got 'unknown' file type(using
windows xp)....After reading this forum one append said to stick with
the tritton firmware. I took that advice and downloaded what apppeared
to be a lower level of firmware at NetHDD006-1013. Well, the lower
level resolved all my problems. The box works perfect now. Hard to
believe that Tritton would ship a box with code that doesn't work. I
got a a seagate 400GB drive for 109$, so for around 200$, I got
something that I'm satisfied with so far.

Hi All.

So I upgraded from Tritton's firmware to Argosy's firmware in order to
use it with Windows Vista (and I was pleasantly surprised to find it
works with OSX as well). For over a month things have been fine.

Recently I discovered some files were corrupt. I couldn't figure out
why, so I did a test, sending a file from Vista to the drive and then
back from the drive to Vista. When I tried to open the file it was
corrupt.

So it looks like the drive is now corrupting my files. What can I do?
Is this a firmware issue or is it because I went from Tritton to
Argosy? Are all my files screwed now? Can I still yank the drive and
put it in a firewire case and save my files?

It appears my Power Supply has died, anyone got an idea where I can
get a replacement ?

It's worse than that, the device is not powering up either.

Looks like time to find a new unit.

Hi,

I purchased two of the Argosy HD363N's and both of them show the same
problem. When I am copying files from my PC to the NAS, the connecting
gets lost and the green led is blinking (long off, long on). The
device is not responding to anything (also stand-by switch doesn't
work), HDD and fan keep on running. The latest firmware was already
in. I had this several times, while copying large amounts of files.

I read all the previous posts and learned that this device is not
suited for professional use, but in my opinion it should be able to
backup my internal HDD to this HD363N without problems.
In the device I mounted a Western Digital 250GB harddisk (WD2500JB).

Anyone facing the same problem (f.i. the blinking led in that
frequency)?

Regards,

Rob.
