applying templates to existing presentations

We have just agreed a new template at work and I would now like to apply it
to multiple presentations.
I hoped it would be as simple as opening the existing presentation and
clicking Format and apply a design template. However despite the fact that
the new templates slidemaster has an object are for auto layouts and a text
area the images and text are not imported into the new presentation. They
appear to sit on top of it in the position they were in in the previous
design. Do you need to manually reposition each piece of text and picture or
is there a quick easy way? I am using Powerpoint 2003 SP1
Thanks for any help

Open one of your existing presentations and look at the Outline view.
Do the title and body text from the slides also appear in the Outline?
If not, it's because whoever created the presentation hasn't used the
placeholders (has probably deleted them and created their own text boxes
instead).

Only text in placeholders will assume the placeholder formatting from a new
template. You can still copy/paste the existing text into the new placeholder
then delete the original.
