Application/Program Access

N

newbie

Sorry for the newbie question.

How can I restrict certain applications/programs from appearing on limited
user's menus?

I have a home PC where I am the Administrator and my children are limited
users. I want to remove some applications from their menus so they are not so
cluttered.

Thanks.

Try this:

1- Log with your admin account
2- Open windows Explorer
3- find this path/directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Limited Account>\Start Menu\Programs\ Start Up
and Remove what you want from that account.

If you have XP professional and you assigned this Teen a limited account you
can do this through the GPO by doing the following:
Open a run command and type in:
gpedit.msc click [OK]
On the Group Policy under User Configuration:
[- ] Administrator Templates
[ -]System: look in the right pane and you will see this option set to Deny
and Allow users as you like:
Don't run specified Windows applications
And this:
Restrict these programs from being launched from help

Use Onecare or another Firewall to limit access to limited user:

Hi,

Which apps/programs or views do you want to remove? For a list of policy
settings for the Start Menu in Windows XP, please refer to this KB:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292504/en-us

Or if you can be more specific, maybe we can figure out a more suitable
solution for your needs. =)

Thank you for your suggestion.

There are a number of programs that are installed which are just "clutter"
as far as my children are concerned. Such as: all of the System Tools Items,
Accessibility Items, Norton Antivirus, Creative Mediasource etc.

I'd like some programs only to be available to Administrators and other to
be available for limited users.

Hope the above makes it a bit clearer.

Thanks.
