Application error

My windows 2000 all of a sudden does not want to boot the
whole way. Almost finished it just reboots and reboots.
In safe mode it works though.
Two times chkdsk was run automatically during booting as
well.
In the event viewer an error consistently occurred.
It says as follows:
Source: PerfDisk
Event ID: 2001
"Unable to read the disk performance information from the
system. Disk performance counters must be enabled for at
least one physical disk or logical volume in order for
these counters to appear. Disk performance counters can be
enabled by using the Hardware Device Manager property
pages. Status code returned is data DWORD 0."

What could be the problem?

If you have access to a computer running Windows XP, copy Msconfig from it
to your Windows 2000 computer. Run the utility, choose Selective Startup,
and uncheck Startup Items. Next, select the Services tab, check the box to
"Hide all Microsoft Services", and then uncheck the remaining items. Click
OK and the let the computer restart. If it boots fully, then begin adding
items back until you identify the cause of the problem. If it fails, totally
uncheck Services on the General tab and test.
