If you perchance have ACDSee,
F2
select all
2009-January*

or if you want to "append" that is add at the end
put the asterix first eg: * January-2009

to add sequential numbers add one, two or three cross hatches ###

Many thanks for prompt response. Could you please elaborate a bit more on how
to run this command?

I have 10k + files in various folders and subfolders. I need to put them in
one folder with their respective parenting folders and subfolders.

Why not just put Shortcuts to the files in the One folder and leave the
Images in the original folder?

the problem is the files are across the network drives.
It causes unnecessary network traffic

And most importantly, it is our plan and we are looking to execute it.

Thanks for your effort to help us!

This is called "to flatten a folder structure". The third-party command
xxcopy.exe has a switch to do it. Here is the result. Subdfolder boundaries
are denoted by backquotes.
Folder1`schtasks.jpg
Folder1`script.jpg
Folder1`set.jpg
Folder1`Shutdown_.jpg
Folder1`subinacl.jpg
Folder1`Sunday 1.jpg
Folder1`susanna.jpg
Folder3`Sub1`schtasks.jpg
Folder3`Sub1`script.jpg
Folder3`Sub1`set.jpg
Folder3`Sub1`Shutdown_.jpg

my workaround is just basically a "rename" facility,
if you had the image program "ACDSee"
then you could use as I have posted.

There are other free rename programs out there.

I use ACDSee because I have it and am used to it.
When I scan my Magazines with say 500 images
the default as "Image 494.jpg" etc

I insert the rename as "Aust Stamp Monthly 1924 page ###"
and it flies through the rename, 001 onwards, it also takes along non image
files
in the rename.

You seem to require something else perhaps,
one that comes to mind is the old "XTree Gold"
now "ZTree Gold" but there's a learning curve.

For a piddly amount of 10,000 files,
I use a free renamer.
