'Ordinary' folk get *a* chip on their shoulder sometimes.

I trust you recognise the term of someone being 'well-balanced'. There
are *two* definitions here

When saying that an Aussie has a chip on *each* shoulder it is a play on
the two separate definitions mentioned in that link.
